Pre/Post-Op
Prescriptions are given at consult unless the patient is not ready to schedule. Patients are to start the antibiotic as prescribed 1 hour prior to surgery. All other prescriptions will be started after surgery.
Patients can fly, travel, return to sports, etc. 1 week post-op.
Whether a patient has a follow-up is usually determined by the doctor and scheduled in the office. All appointments related to implants, with the exception of actual implant placement procedures, should be rescheduled.
Either the doctor or tech will usually call the afternoon of the surgery to check on the patient.
Gauze- Change every 45 minutes – 1 hour until the active bleeding stops.
Syringes- Start at least 7 days post-op (usually 7-10 days). Patient can use the rinse or warm salt water in the syringe. If using the rinse in the syringe there is no need swish with rinse. If using salt water in the syringe, patient will need to swish with the mouth rinse.
NPO- At least 6 hours prior for later surgeries but midnight is the standard.
Salt Water Rinse- 8 ounces of water to 1 teaspoon of salt. This is started the day after surgery, 3 times a day.
Diet-
- Carbonated beverages are ok.
- Normal diet the day of surgery
- No straws or smoking for at least 24 hours post op.
- Advise against anything crunchy for at least 4-5 days.
