Implant Process:
The timeline is usually 6-7 months. First, the tooth is removed, and the site is bone grafted. Allow 3 months to heal. Then the office will schedule an implant re-consult appointment and perform a conebeam CT to evaluate how the site healed over the 3 months. After the reconsult appointment, the patient can be scheduled for implant placement surgery. After this surgery, the implant requires 3 months to heal. After that, 3 months of implant healing, the patient will be scheduled for an implant release appointment.
Typical Implant Treatments
Implants generally need to be placed with good stability, securely in bone for a predictable outcome. In a site where the tooth has been removed and is well healed, this is easily accomplished. There are occasions where it is best to place the implant at the time of tooth extraction. This becomes more difficult and less likely to occur in sites that are infected, have had pain, or in the back part of the mouth with multi-rooted teeth.
Either way, once the implant has healed, which takes approximately three months and you have been released by your surgeon, your dentist can fabricate a crown on the implant to restore natural function.
A pre-surgical consultation is important, so that the best path of treatment can be decided before your surgical date and all aspects of your particular case discussed and explained.
