Dr. Demarcus Smith, DDS

Born and raised in Baton Rouge, Dr. Demarcus Smith grew up on a small farm, beginning his lifelong love of the land and countryside. Although he originally wanted to be an orthodontist, he was inspired to go into oral surgery during dental school. Dr. Smith’s caring nature and wide breadth of knowledge ensure his patients feel safe and comfortable throughout their treatment as they experience improved oral health.

Education and Experience
Dr. Smith went directly to dental school after three years at LSU as an undergraduate, graduating in 1981. He completed his OMS residency at Charity Hospital in New Orleans, serving as Chief Resident his final year.
Since 1986, Dr. Smith has been involved with the Children’s Hospital Cleft and Craniofacial Team, treating children with facial abnormalities. He is also a member of the Delta Dental Study Club, which focuses on humanitarian efforts in the New Orleans area.

Professional Affiliations
Dr. Smith is board-certified by the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (ABOMS). In addition to this prestigious certification, he is professionally affiliated with several local and national organizations, including the American Association of Oral Maxillofacial Surgeons (AAOMS), American Dental Association (ADA), Louisiana Dental Association (LDA), New Orleans Dental Association (NODA), and Louisiana Association of Oral Maxillofacial Surgery.

Outside the Office 
Dr. Smith enjoys the outdoors and loves farming, hunting, and fishing. He is active within his church parish and goes on mission trips, building churches and providing dental work.

Dr. Michael Ferguson, DDS, MD

Originally from Lafayette, Dr. Ferguson is a Louisiana native who is proud to serve his community in the greater New Orleans area. He actively served in the U.S. Army and Louisiana Army National Guard for many years. He enlisted as a combat medic to aid his fellow soldiers and later became a Commissioned Officer. From treating soldiers to treating patients here at home, he strives to put patients at ease and make them feel as comfortable as possible, always placing the priorities and needs of the patient before anything else. He wants to get to know every one of his patients by providing respect, honesty, and good conversation.

Education and Experience
Dr. Ferguson attended Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge and graduated in 1995. Later he attended LSU School of Dentistry in New Orleans, graduating in 2000 and obtained his DDS. Next, he received his MD from LSU School of Medicine in 2003 and completed his residency at Charity Hospital in New Orleans in 2006. He went on to become board-certified by the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.

Dr. Ferguson is involved with the Children’s Hospital Cleft and Craniofacial Team, treating children with facial abnormalities. He is also a member of the Delta Dental Study Club, which focuses on humanitarian efforts in the New Orleans area.

Outside the Office
Dr. Ferguson is involved with several local nonprofit organizations. These efforts are in support of military veterans and the local law enforcement community. He is also an active member of his church. Dr. Ferguson takes advantage of all that beautiful Louisiana has to offer. He likes spending time outdoors with family, hunting, fishing, and biking. He also has a passion for health/fitness and traveling.

Dr. Kelly Chuang, DMD

Dr. Chuang joined Oral Surgery Services because she shares the practice’s commitment to patient-centric care, reconstruction focus, and culture of safety. Her approach to care is deeply rooted in ensuring patients are fully informed and comfortable with their treatment options, always prioritizing safety and optimal healing.

Education and Experience

Dr. Kelly Chuang attended the Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, MD and graduated in 2011 with a Bachelor of Arts in Biology and English, with Honors in English. She went on to obtain a Master of Health Science in Microbiology and Immunology at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health in 2012. She later attended the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine, where she received her Doctorate in Dental Medicine in 2019. She then pursued further surgical training at the University of Illinois at Chicago as an oral and maxillofacial surgery intern with a focus on head and neck cancers and pathology. In 2020, Dr. Chuang moved to Washington, DC, where she began her residency. She is a recent graduate of Howard University Hospital’s Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery program, where she trained in managing trauma, orthognathic surgery, and reconstruction cases.

Professional Affiliations

Currently, she is an active member of national organizations such as the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (AAOMS) and Oral Maxillofacial Surgeon Political Action Committee (OMSPAC). During training, she was elected to be on the executive committee of the resident arm of AAOMS and often represented her district at national conferences and subcommittee meetings. She has also been on multiple ethics review boards during her training, both in academia and at the hospital.

Outside the Office

Dr. Chuang is excited to explore the natural beauty of the Louisiana Gulf Coast and immerse herself in New Orleans’ unique culture and history. She enjoys hiking, bicycling, and yoga in her free time and has recently started painting.
