Surgery Scheduling Policies

  • IV/GA/Oral Sedation surgeries: Scheduled from the top of the AM down- (fasting patients)
  • Do not schedule IV/GA patients in the afternoon, unless it is a surgery only day (day before a holiday- will be listed at the top of schedule!)
  • LA/N20 scheduled from 11:00 am – down.
  • *Latest LA/N20 appt offered = 2:30 pm*
  • Pt’s consult is good for one year- if they attempt to schedule sx after that time frame, they must be seen for another re-eval consult.
  • Check doctor’s note for plan of treatment, confirm with pt
  • Check doctor’s note for desired length of time to be scheduled for. If not listed, check in attachments for a, “check out form” or schedule for amount of GA time entered in Tx plan
  • If pt was given several Tx plan options, confirm which they wish to proceed with and make a note in EMR & contact notes. If they wish to have insurance checked for all options prior to decision, dock to Lauren w/ specifics & schedule for biggest option in interim
  • Make sure there is a current Tx plan entered for procedure they are attempting to schedule (entered within the year)
  • If there is no Tx plan entered, and note is unclear as to what they are scheduling- dock the doctor for clarification
  • Mark Tx plan as scheduled, and dock to Peyton or Christie for insurance benefits to be checked/re-checked!
  • Make sure pt was provided prescriptions – if not, get pharmacy # and address & place in alerts. Dock doctor to have Rx electronically sent to pt’s pharmacy
  • If pt is scheduling sx in a new year and/or several months after initial consult, please confirm that there have been no changes with insurance
  • Feel free to call any of us if you ever have questions!
